I always advocated for lunch as a first date. If it’s going well extend into the evening, if it’s going badly you’ve got plans later. Went for lunch with my now wife, we stayed until they kicked us out at closing time.

I’m in a major city so a coffee date for me is a no . But I agree we don’t have to break the bank . Coffee date in a city is about low thought rather than low money .

My wife and I got burgers and then ice cream on our first date. Yes it was dinner. It was an inflation adjusted $40 date. I bought dinner. She bought ice cream because during dinner we decided to continue the date so she asked if she could take me out for desert after I ASKED her “do you mind if I pay for dinner?” Why would presume that she wanted me to pay for dinner. (Needless to say this does not work for everyone but it’s the values we were both raised with).

Same, girl. Like a one hour dinner for a vibe check? No. A coffee or a walk for me is fine. I know for some women this is unacceptable lol. But I feel like it’s fair and I need to be able to get out quickly if I want to.
