![A beginner’s itinerary for India 🇮🇳 If you’re apprehensive about travelling to India for the first time I would consider this 3 week itinerary. It skips the busiest cities and focuses on India's slower, tropical side 🌺🌴🧘♀️🌊 Fly in to Trivandrum International Airport (TRV) to get to the south of India. You will likely have to fly into a major city like Mumbai and get a domestic flight down to TRV. [Side Note: the plane food in India is soooo good. I’d recommend Air India] Stop 1 - Varkala We got here by taking a few hour local train. [Note: book a first class ticket for air con and space!] Think cliffside cafés, beach sunsets, yoga classes and surf lessons Stop 2 - Munroe Island The Alleppey backwaters are the tourist hotspot but Munroe island is just as beautiful without the crowds. The Munroe Island Backwaters Homestay was our favourite stay of the trip, I can’t recommend it enough. Think relaxing afternoons swimming in the river and tiny backwater villages where life moves slowly – a sunrise canoe trip through narrow canals were a highlight Stop 3 - Munnar So so beautiful. Relax in a gorgeous hotel with a pool and break up your time there with a hike up one of the tea plantations. Expect cooler mountain air, endless tea plantations and some of the best views in Kerala [Note: We got Ubers between cities (even on journeys 4hrs+) as they were so affordable and took a fraction of the time than a local bus. Uber was far cheaper than the hotels who offered to arrange taxis for us] Stop 4 - Kochi If you're tight on time I'd probably skip Kochi, but it's a lovely stop for boutique shops, cafés, the Chinese fishing nets and watching the sunset by the waterfront. Stop 5 - Goa With so many areas within Goa that are popular destinations, where you go in Goa depends on what you’re looking for. North Goa is more of a commercial party scene, and South Goa is generally more relaxed, with pristine (ish) beaches and luxury beachhouses to stay in. I'd spend at least 4–5 days here to slow down before flying home. General notes: 💰 Kerala and India in general is very affordable. 🚆 Book trains in advance if travelling in peak season. 📱 Uber works really well in many cities, but not everywhere. ☀️ We went in March/April and it was VERY hot. Would reccomend Jan/Feb 🚎 If you’re a light sleeper, don’t book a sleeper bus 🥘 Thali’s are INCREDIBLE. Eat as many as you can ✨ As a foreigner you naturally get a lot of stares for looking different, but we felt safe throughout 🌆 if including a busy city, personally I would start with that so you end on a relaxing few days x #india #travel #backpacking](/video/cover/7661565392363588886.webp)
