@empty.glances: There is definitely something funny about how alcohol can remove somebody’s filter and suddenly reveal exactly who has been occupying their thoughts. 😭 The person who normally overthinks whether they should text first is suddenly sending “I miss youuuuu” with seven extra letters, calling from the bathroom at the bar, or telling all their friends, “No, you don’t understand, I LOVE HIM.” And when somebody is genuinely attached to their partner, it makes sense that they might think about them when their guard is down. Maybe they’re out with friends having the best night ever and still randomly decide they need to call their boyfriend immediately because they heard their song. 😭 There is something sweet about knowing that even in a room full of people, somebody’s mind naturally wanders back toward you. But I wouldn’t turn this into an actual relationship test. People react to alcohol completely differently. Some become affectionate, some become quiet, some barely use their phones, some are completely focused on whoever they’re physically with, and some wisely put their phone away before they start sending messages they’ll regret in the morning. Not receiving a drunk call doesn’t mean somebody doesn’t love you, just like receiving one isn’t proof that somebody is loyal or committed. What matters much more is how they treat you when they’re sober and fully responsible for their choices. Do they think about you then? Do they communicate? Do they respect the relationship when you’re not around? Do their actions consistently make it clear that you’re their person? That’s a much better measure than what happens after three drinks. Still, I understand why the idea resonates. There’s something romantic about being the person somebody instinctively reaches for when all the overthinking disappears. Not because they have to check in, but because somewhere underneath all the noise, excitement, and lowered inhibition, their brain goes, Where’s my person? I want my person. And if your partner is calling you from the middle of a night out just to tell you they love you for the eighth time, maybe don’t ask too many questions. Just tell them you love them too, make sure they get home safely, and prepare to remind them tomorrow about everything they said. 😭
