GYMPIE-GYMPIE PART 3: It probably seems a bit ridiculous to be scared of a 3” tall sprout, but I honestly have never been more terrified of a plant in my life; and I own 4,000 of them. After accidentally brushing my elbow against the fresh hell that is the Dendrocnide moroides earlier last week, I can confidently say that it’s nothing like any other stinging plant or plant-related injury I’ve ever experienced-whether it be photo-phyto dermatitis or temporary blindness from rhaphides in Alocasias, this was a whole other Pandora’s box. I strongly debated throwing the plant out; but I’ve devised a means to keep it, without continuing to risk my safety; I will be detailing this plan in my next installment of this series. Please do note the oven mitt I used here-now that this plant is producing its true leaves, laden with irritating trichomes, it’s very, very important to be careful around it. This plant is not something to be used for shock value, or as a ‘sting challenge’, like I’ve seen it so often portrayed by big content creators; the after affects of even momentarily encountering the stingers of Dendrocnide are not in any sense short term, and the months of sudden pain and discomfort that follow a sting are the part of this thrill-seeking nonsense that put this plant far apart from getting stung by a bee or wasp. Seriously; please be very careful when operating around this plant, and understand I’m growing it with the intention of research. I hope you all enjoy. ❤️ #donttrythisathome #gympiegympie #dendrocnidemoroides #horror #plants
