I hate it when I mix up my spoons and accidentally take a bite using the sharp one . I know it's what gives us the American accent but it still hurts!

Sometimes I get exhausted during dinner from all the utensils swapping. I have to stop and catch my breath. And then one time I spent like an hour trying to cut my steak with a spoon because I forgot to swap utensils.

I have met some people that will do the swapping of the fork and knife because they're more comfortable cutting with their dominant hand and then they also want to eat with their dominant hand. This however is not most americans. And if you do start off doing that you eventually become more comfortable cutting with your less dominant hand usually the left hand. They probably saw it once on a movie or TV show and ran with the idea that all Americans eat this way🙄

So the eating with the fork in the left is called ‘Continental style’ and it’s a taught technique. We use ‘American style’ and our method allows for slower eating because we put the utensils down. Not sure why it matters, but 🤷🏻♀️
