Soaring over 20 meters high and weighing more than 40 tons, it was built in just 120 days by the Russian Military Historical Society to mark the 800th anniversary of the prince's birth. The monument captures the victorious return of Russian warriors from the legendary Battle of the Ice in 1242. Lake Peipus was the battlefield. Here, on April 5, 1242, Alexander Nevsky broke the crusader assault. In their retreat, the heavily armored crusaders fell onto thin ice, breaking through into the freezing depths under the sheer weight of their iron plate.☦️⚔️
