I’ve actually gone through something similar with a friend I once considered one of my closest friends. In 2022, I was going through a tough time and had a lot happening in my personal life. I confided in him about how much I was hurting over a girl I cared about. I trusted him enough to share things that genuinely bothered me because I believed that’s what best friends were for. Then, he ended up getting involved with that same girl. They kissed during a game, and even though none of us was technically dating, it still hurt because he knew exactly how I felt about her. I remember telling him privately that it made me feel betrayed and asking why he would do that when he was supposed to be my best friend. He apologized and said he understood why I was upset, and eventually I tried to move past it. But something changed in that friendship afterward. It made me realize that being someone’s friend doesn’t automatically mean they’ll handle your feelings with the same loyalty and consideration you would give them. Looking back, I don’t think the biggest issue was even the girl. It was realizing that someone I trusted knew exactly where I was emotionally and still made a decision that would hurt me. That experience changed how I see friendship. Sometimes the hardest part isn’t losing the person—it’s realizing that the friendship you thought you had wasn’t quite what you believed it to be.

2022, probably one of the roughest years of my life, I had my best friend of 6 years sleep with my girlfriend at the time who I was with for a little over half a year, found out he slept with her while I was visiting family overseas for a month. one month was all it took for her to sleep with another man... but that man ended up being the person I considered my brother at the time. Right after that they went ahead and made up rumors about me Sexually assaulting my girlfriend/now ex which made me the most lonely and hated person in my school. If there's one single thing I've gotten that I could name about that experience is that it taught me self reliance. because If the people I trust can't consider me and or stab me in the back so easily then who do I really have to watch my back? Haven't made many friends since then, only a small group of people but at the same time I can't bring myself to fully trust them because of that experience. Sometimes.. the easiest way to ease a wound is by cutting it out. it's not healthy but its something thats helped me for years.
