Boyyyyy, I went to a Food Truck festival last week and they want to charge $10 for a freaking FUNNEL CAKE. I almost got a speeding ticket driving home to make it.

Honestly, paying $8 for a fresh fair donut and throwing in a tip is a no-brainer when you consider opportunity cost.
By the time you buy ingredients, reduce cider, chill dough, and deep fry, even someone on minimum wage loses more value in time than the price of the donut.
The only real reason to make these at home is for the experience and family tradition, not to 'save money'!
