When Amber’s mother reported her missing on July 2, police went to the family home. What they discovered inside would turn the investigation into a murder case. Amber had been shot in the head. Her body was found hidden inside a garbage can in the garage, covered with debris. A firearm was also found nearby. Amber’s husband, Keith Zotto, initially told investigators that Amber had left after an argument and suggested she may have left a suicide note. Investigators later arrested him and charged him with first-degree murder. In May 2021, an Arapahoe County jury found Keith Zotto guilty of first-degree murder.
