So the answer seems to be physicians unionizing so they can collectively bargain without undue corporate influence

I have the receipt for my birth in 1988. My mom had a routine, spontaneous labor, uncomplicated delivery and she stayed one day. That entire bill was $283. Being alive has become unaffordable.

Also as I understand a lot of those PE firms are owned by insurance companies; is that true?

In CT we have 1000 individual or group docs in an IPA(independent physician association)… does all our negotiations with insurance companies to compete with Yale and Hartford Healhcare and lets us maintain independence… has been great way to actually increase revenue

The answer is unions. But physicians across the board seem to think that’s such a dirty word you can’t talk to them about it.

Yes this! My group is physician-owned and we have merged with enough other groups that we can survive.

This is my nephew. Rehab hospitals told us UHC never pays for specialized brain injury rehab. Their “expert” reviewer was an orthopedist not a neurologist. We are still fighting for his rehab. This sickening greed is sickening.

Thank god, we needed a rational voice on this. The TikTok reaction by physicians is pathetic thus far

Michigan is an interesting case study here. physicians largely teamed up into physician organizations for collective bargaining purposes. there are absolutely physician organizations that are associated with individual health systems but there are a large number of independents. United Physicians for example is ~2k independent practitioners.

If reimbursement were better, Private Equity would still be here and encroaching on healthcare. The only difference is how deep they need to reach into their pockets to get an owner to sell.

This is so interesting, I agree that merging private practices is better then selling out to corporate, but those mergers would be very difficult to make successful

Exactly, nobody commenting how the government created this problem for physicians own practices to begin with. They need to fix their own issues, prior authorization issues, and stop decreasing reimbursements to physicians. Stop cutting our dang pay.

Hi dr. Can i challenge you for a second? Independent mergers formed mega conglomerates which got us to where we are. Where is the limit to merging? What do you think? Im on your side, but see a minor flaw in your ligic.
