@islaminpast: #creatorsearchinsights The expansion of Masjid an-Nabawi reflects centuries of care and dedication to preserving and expanding one of the most sacred places in Islam. During the Ottoman period, Sultan Abdulmejid I oversaw a major renovation and expansion of the mosque in the 19th century, completed in 1861. The Ottoman additions included beautifully decorated prayer halls, columns, arches, and the distinctive red-and-white elements that became part of the mosque's historic appearance. After the establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Masjid an-Nabawi underwent much larger expansions to accommodate the growing number of pilgrims and visitors. The first major Saudi expansion began during the reign of King Abdulaziz in the 1950s, followed by further expansions under later Saudi kings. Today, the mosque is vastly larger than its historic Ottoman structure, while continuing to preserve important elements of its rich architectural heritage. #madinah #islamichistory #arabia #islaminpast
