I do this because my wife was choking once and needed the Heimlich Maneuver. She was banging on the wall trying to get my attention and we were fortunate enough that her brother was staying at our house and came out to see what the noise was. No more double headphones for me

and this is why I use open backs 1) they just sound better 2) they are cooler on the ears 3) I can still easily hear if shes trying to get my attention

one time, my husband was playing video games on his day off. this was shortly after our oldest daughter started walking. I needed to do laundry which was in the basement. I put her in the playpen and took the basket downstairs. somehow the door got shut behind me and locked itself. I had a panic attack because it was a creepy basement with a single light bulb. I cried and screamed for over an hour but he couldnt hear me cause he had his headset covering both ears. when he finally took them off and heard me he freaked out. I didnt have to do the laundry in the basement again and he always has his headset on with one ear uncovered now. always have an ear open!

I was taking care of three kids while their parents got their shit together, probably spent a whole year with them. The oldest and middle boy liked playing fortnite but their parents had sold their devices for selfish reasons. I bought them a new system with games, and they finally got to play again. The youngest was a girl, so I spent a lot of time hanging out with her, playing barbies. One day the oldest ripped off his headset, swung his head around, and said “Is she okay? I haven’t checked on her in awhile and had my headset on.” He was 13..Full responsibility of those kids, he took care of them. He made sure they were safe, fed, bathed. He always had one ear open until that day, when he finally got to play a game knowing someone was taking care of his siblings, an adult. He got to be a kid again 😌

Been with my wife for ten years and I only recently felt comfortable wearing headphones while gaming 😂 I still leave one ear open though. Gotta be present even when I’m not.

Started out of anxiety. Still doing it if she's in another room just to make sure I'm there if she needs me. If she's next to me in the same room, then I feel more comfortable doing it but always give her a "Alright, I'm going dark. Tap me or wave to get my attention" 😂

I do the same, need one off incase my wife or kids need anything. I even use on ear headsets so my whole ear isn’t covered. But that’s more a comfort thing lol
