& they are lying… like a lot! Like I don’t think most of us have put the words to it yet. But we weren’t raised lying like this. We couldn’t even say lie… we had to say ‘telling a story’. & they just be volunteering lies to kick it or feel superior & call us xenophobic when we clocked them for lying about things that can easily be proven!

My family never talked about Africa whatsoever. People say their parents would tell them there are kids in Africa with no food. Mine would tell us about the Great Depression (my dad was born during the GD). They had 10-12 kids then and So we ain’t wasting no food somebody was gonna eat those leftovers too. I’ve always hated the African booty scratcher dig and have never called anyone that. I only heard it a couple of times when I moved down south and thought that’s some southern shit. There’s just some phrases and slang I refuse to use even as a child.

The conversations in our home started & ended with “finish your food, there’s kids in Africa starving.” Our parents never sat us down to discuss no damn Africans, Haitians, Jamaicans, etc

I'm biethnic half BA half Caribbean. No one centered Africa growing up. I knew two Nigerian sisters growing up and never felt we were the same. Idk when that started. The only time I was around them was to get my hair braided. I married an African man tho, but I can tell you the cultural difference is a big deal. We're not the same at all, and we can't ignore that
