this is exactly why Chiikawa resonates so strongly in the modern world. I remember seeing a mini documentary about Chiikawa where a child psychologist explains why Chiikawa resonates with young people: "working young people feel as though their efforts no longer bear fruit" essentially speaking about young people learning that they no longer live in the world that their predecessors lived in so instead of focusing on work, they focus on things like friendship, small joys, food, enjoying life, even if they still have to work.

there is no meaningless grind in chiikawa! they choose to do those jobs because they want to as there is absolutely no need for them to work for survival. their world provides them with free food and housing so any work they do is purely for their own fulfilment or to buy luxury goods

Chiikawa is peak because it provides a framework and example of how to live a whimsical and fulfilling life even among modern pitfalls. Idk who said it but there’s a quote, “childlike play is the highest form of spirituality.” Each of us can sympathize or see ourselves in one or more of the characters, and in that way they become role models too.
