Respect is not earned. it is given. Requiring people to "earn" basic respect is just an ego tax. Give respect as a reflection of your immutable good character, not as a result of their performance/Behavior. Treating baseline respect as something transactional makes your character conditional on other people's behavior. Pure Respect is not conditional. but it's a reflection of who you are no matter how they perform or behave.
