I have 28 people on my staff that I interviewed, I could literally care less and never even thought about it before now. Infact I drink coffee while conducting the interview. If you plan to drink coffee while doing the job makes sense to drink it while you interview for the job. If anything it maybe makes then more comfortable during the interview so they do well. Guess that is my my retention is so good, I don’t play hierarchy games. Also, side note, I just had a massive board meeting yesterday with 15 people, and all did presentations and have major conversations, every single person brought coffee, including the CFO who was vying for a multi-million dollar deal. I promise you it’s not that serious

Interviews are not casual and typically competitive, rattling an iced coffee is very casual. It’s an audition, once you land the job you can usually come in business casual with your iced coffee.

Or, Counterpoint: The attitude of interviewers disqualifying over an iced coffee is a bigger problem of over social policing similar to “nobody wants to work anymore” from boomers. Most of who I’ve seen enforcing or defending this being a disqualifying variable has been millennials like myself. It’s feeling like a staunch and needless generational disconnect more than a cut & dry hidden test of office virtue.
