In my 40s, I’ve realized some of my triggers don’t come from the present… they come from the version of me who had to survive without support. One of the hardest things I’ve had to be honest about is this: Sometimes when people start depending on me too much, it doesn’t just feel overwhelming… It triggers the part of me that had to: • figure it out alone • carry it alone • survive it alone • become strong because there wasn’t another option And that part of me can get angry. Not because I don’t care. Not because I don’t love deeply. Not because I don’t want to show up for people. But because my inner child still remembers what it felt like to need help… and not have it. So yes, sometimes being “needed” can hit a wound that has nothing to do with the person in front of me and everything to do with the version of me who learned way too early that she was on her own. Healing has looked a lot like learning the difference between: being loving and over-functioning being supportive and self-abandoning being strong and living in survival mode If this hit a nerve… Comment ME and I’ll know I’m not the only one. 💙
