IS YOUR SCHOOL ASSEMBLY TEACHING ANYTHING? . For some schools, assembly is simply: “Good morning.” “Prayers.” “Announcements.” “National anthem.” “Go to your classes.” And that's it. But assembly can be much more than that. . For Lower Primary pupils, it is an opportunity to teach values, behaviour, safety and life skills in a simple and memorable way. Instead of giving children long lectures, schools can use short, practical topics such as: 📌 Why We Should Always Tell the Truth 📌 How to Be a Good Friend 📌 Why We Should Not Bully Others 📌 Learning to Say Please, Sorry and Thank You 📌 Why We Should Respect Others 📌 What Should You Do When You Are Angry? 📌 Why We Should Come to School Early 📌 How to Take Care of Our School 📌 Why We Must Listen to Our Teachers 📌 Keeping Our Classroom Clean 📌 Why We Should Complete Our Homework 📌 Why We Must Wash Our Hands 📌 Eating Healthy Food 📌 How to Stay Safe on the Road 📌 What to Do When a Stranger Approaches You . But don't just announce the topic and talk for 20 minutes. Make the children participate. Tell them a short story. Ask questions. Let them give examples. Give them a situation and ask: “What would you do?” Then end with one simple challenge they can practise during the week. . For example: Topic: Being Kind Ask: “What would you do if you saw your friend sitting alone?” “What would you do if someone fell down?” “Can you be kind to someone you don't like?” Then give them a challenge: “This week, do one kind thing for someone without being asked.” That is how assembly becomes more than a routine. . It becomes part of the school's character-building system.
