‼️Ancient Egypt - Hathor‘s Chapel‼️ The Hathor Chapel at Hatshepsut’s temple in Deir el-Bahri is dedicated to the goddess Hathor, patroness of love, music, fertility, and protector of the Theban necropolis. It is located at the southern end of the temple and is entered through a portico with striking Hathor-headed columns, their capitals shaped as the goddess’ face with cow’s ears, a hallmark of her iconography. The chapel consists of a series of chambers culminating in a rock-cut, often overlooked sanctuary, where Hathor was worshipped in her sacred cow form, emerging from the mountain. Liturgically, this was the focal point of offerings, music, and ritual celebrations that linked the queen with Hathor’s divine protection and rejuvenating powers. Processions connected the Hathor cult with other parts of the temple complex, and the sanctuary ensured the goddess’ continued presence and blessing upon both the temple and its royal founder. The sanctuary is especially remarkable for its vivid preservation, with brilliant blues still visible on the reliefs and a starry ceiling that creates an atmosphere of celestial splendour. @harpocration pointed out that due to a fire the pigments of the yellows turned red.
