On March 15, 2025, an unidentified man was struck multiple times on the back of the head near a transient camp in DeLand, Florida. Camp residents discovered him near a freshly dug grave-sized hole and called the police. The victim was hospitalized, regained consciousness, and may suffer significant long-term injuries, including memory loss. Giovanni Bubenik was identified as a suspect during the investigation into the assault. Six days later, police apprehended Bubenik and charged him with attempted first-degree murder and obstructing an officer during the arrest.
