People don't understand that the only thing Homelander had in the whole world was his role as the perfect hero, being the leader of The Seven, and that when that began to crumble with the death of Translucent the time bomb that had been wanting to explode since he was a teenager was activated. But he already had problems with self-perception and feeling undervalued; his power over his team members was almost the only thing keeping him sane, and when he started losing control, everything fell apart.
