I worked at a hospital that had a patient for 2 YEARS. He had nowhere to go, but they wouldn't discharge him to the streets. He was finally placed in a nursing home. This was in Sanford, NC.

We call it the “30 day patient shuffle” when Medicaid stops paying, they call an ambulance for transport to take the patient to another facility at which point it’s considered a new visit so the insurance will kick back in… every 30 days until the patient is well.. never heard of just kicking them out on the street.

Wherever he was hospitalized , it sounds like he did not receive adequate care. He didn't develop a UTI on the spot.That's how it always starts.And then it goes into sepsis
