A British mother whose husband was allegedly kidnapped by Saudi Arabia nine years ago has called on Andy Burnham to “step up” and help free him. Mira Lozi, an entrepreneur from London who is undergoing cancer treatment, said her husband, Rami Naimi, was abducted in Dubai in 2017 on his way back from a trip to Australia with his father, Ali Al-Naimi, a former Saudi oil minister. She claimed he was then taken to Saudi Arabia where he was held in the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Riyadh as part of a purge of the country’s elite that consolidated power in the hands of Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), the current crown prince. Lozi, a mother of three, claims Naimi, a Maltese citizen who worked in private equity, was subjected to torture, including beating, waterboarding and electric shocks. She said he was released the following year after he signed a document pledging to hand over almost £1.3 billion and banning him from leaving the country. The father, 60, was detained again in 2022 and held for two years before being sentenced to six years imprisonment in 2025 after a trial in secret, according to his family. Her husband, who has been released on licence and cannot leave the country, is now understood to face additional charges, alleging he followed certain social media accounts that were critical of the country’s rulers. A court hearing is due to take place on September 20. The Foreign Office and the Saudi embassy were approached for comment. 🔗 Tap the link to read more 📸 PA / Bring Rami Home Campaign 📸 John Nguyen for The Times / JNVisuals #uknews #saudi #dubai #campaign #government
