Troll Off! Slightly different post today. Remember this look from earlier this week? This is a little behind the scenes. Me just vibing whilst waiting for the traffic to clear so @zoegriffinphoto and I can shoot. Would you be surprised to know that it received the most amount of negative comments than any piece of content I have ever posted? Would you be more surprised that the larger majority of mean spirited comments were from men? And that those comments were all based around me being “too old” to wear this look and “showing too much skin.” I’ve had a presence here long enough to know that naming them would be giving them the acknowledgment and visibility they so desperately crave. I have more important people to address. To those of you who took inspiration from this style up and messaged me to say you were excited about creating your own. Take this inspiration too. If you receive similar comments, or read any of the ones I received before I deleted them. Shake you head, roll your eyes and laugh it off! I read them all with a wry smile and a sense of disappointment and…validation. More reason than ever to have a presence here! Funny, because when I used to observe other content creators (before The Elegant Stylist was a thing) and read hateful comments under their posts, I use to think they would crush me. Make me afraid to post my real self. The experience of constantly showing up here has in itself made me bolder and more defiant against those that want to suppress our joy. Oppress our existence. Shame us into our shells. And to any new trolls with itchy fingers just waiting to dive into the comments on this post. My block and delete finger awaits you. My 57 self and my forty plus community are here to stay. The more you whine about us living our best lives, the louder and prouder we shall be.
