I will be making my 11th trip to Singapore in November. Singapore is all about where you stay, where you eat, and where you go. Do your research and you will find meals for 4 to 6 SGD, hotels under 200 SGD, and things to do for free.

I grew up in Singapore and was told all my life Singapore is one of the most expensive cities in the world. I believed that until I moved to France and I was humbled by the prices. I’m not sure which places you are going in Singapore but it’s still cheaper than the US and most of Europe.

I live in NYC and I go to Singapore at least once a year for a month for many, many years. Singapore is expensive compared to other countries in the region but it’s not as expensive as NYC.

did he just say SG was an extension of US?! last i remember, they dont have graffitti, trash on the street, disruptive people on a high. expensive? yes.. but think of it as a contribution to your security, safety, convenience and cleanliness 😁

Honestly, when visiting Singapore or any other country, you should have properly done your research to know what to expect. So please have a proper budget before visiting. Despite being a very small country, we do have plenty of activities from world famous zoos to traditional fusion food thanks to our very mixed cultural heritage and even a Universal Studio which definitely CANT BE COVERED IN A DAY. You will need at least a week to visit everything, trust me.

It can’t be more expensive than NYC, even saying it cost the same is abit of a stretch if you take into account the exchange rate 😅 A cab ride doesn’t cost $70-100 here 😭

Have lived here for 10 years, it’s actually more affordable than Europe in terms of eating out and transport if you go to hawker and take the bus or mrt. It also has a lot of beautiful cultural things to do if you don’t just stay within the MBS area…the Peranakan Museum for example is great.

if you reference us VS other Southeast Asian Countries, then yes. we are expensive, no doubt. but to compare to new york, bro, we are far off. number 1, we dont have tip culture. our GST and additional fees are all embedded usually in the receipts, ntng extra to add on. our grab/gojek vs nyc uber, the pricing is cheaper by certain degree. i cn safely say this 2 big comparisons because i was in new york last year for a week. my cheapest fast food meal there with tips was already USD30 at chic fil a. here, the macs only cost me $11. thts like USD13-14

Are you not going to the hawker centres? A rice dish is max SGD6 and a noodle dish is max SGD5. Are you eating only in restaurants? Please eat where the locals eat.

As a Singaporean living in NYC, it’s is way more expensive in NYC than SG. Many travelers never thought to do any research about the country and just assume that Singapore is one of those SEA countries where currency is weaker and then get a sticker shock when they realize that they’re are in one of the most expensive countries in the world.

As an American living in Singapore, it’s a giant sliding scale in terms of cost. However, you can definitely find cheap food and drinks. Some decent hostels as well. You’re not gonna get Vietnam/Laos/Cambodia cheap of course.
