July 9, 2026 Nigeria Heavy rains caused flooding in Akwa Ibom State in the south of the country. In Uyo and surrounding areas, floodwaters inundated streets, homes, and public facilities. This resulted in the destruction of property and livestock, leading residents to block a major highway in protest. Among the damaged properties was a Seventh-day Adventist Church. According to the church community, the church building and grounds were flooded, causing property damage. The flooding also hampered road access and necessitated impact assessment and relief efforts in the affected areas. A family of four was rescued from the Ewet Housing Extension, and search and rescue and evacuation operations are ongoing in other affected areas.
