after 1,500+ hours of pilates + 20 years of training as an elite athlete, these are some of the biggest mistakes i see people making when they feel like pilates “isn’t working” ♡ 1. you’re moving too fast pilates is not about getting through as many reps as possible. slow down. control the movement. the shaky reps are usually where the magic is happening. 2. you’re not actually using your deep core there is a huge difference between just “doing abs” and learning how to properly engage your deep core. your breathing, ribs, pelvis + core should all be working together. 3. you’re choosing range of motion over control bigger is not always better. if you have to lose your form to make the movement bigger, make it smaller. 4. you’re letting your hip flexors take over everything if every ab exercise is burning your hip flexors instead of your core, something probably needs to change in your positioning or execution. 5. you’re never progressing your body adapts. that doesn’t necessarily mean you need heavier springs every week, but you DO need progression through control, resistance, stability, range, tempo or more advanced variations. 6. you think every pilates class is created equal the instructor matters. a lot. good cueing, intentional programming, corrections + actual knowledge of the method can completely change what you get out of a class. 7. you’re focusing on “feeling the burn” instead of form a movement being painful or insanely hard doesn’t automatically make it effective. quality > chaos every single time. 8. you’re inconsistent one incredible class isn’t going to change your body. the boring answer is consistency. the results come from doing the little things correctly over and over and over again. pilates can be incredibly effective, but HOW you do it matters just as much as how often you do it. save this before your next class ♡
