Brokerage account basics (Taxes) Lesson 2 Don't let the taxes scare you away from investing in a brokerage account. This video covers the very basics of dividends, interest, capital gains distributions, short term capital gains, and long term capital gains. There ARE some nuances... 📍Some investments can distribute capital gains, interest, or dividends that are considered "qualified" meaning they may qualify for a long term gains tax rate versus ordinary income (your tax document issued by your brokerage firm SHOULD report this for you) 📍Short term capital gains (STCG) gets treated just like regular income so the more "income" you have from all sources the higher you are going to be taxed 📍Long term capital gains (LTCG) applies to investments sold after holding for longer than 1 year + 1 day 📍Losses do offset gains we will cover this in the tax strategy lesson 🫶 📍Things like muni bonds or other tax exempt bond holdings are not covered in this video (if enough ppl want to know about it I can make a video about it) education only, taxes, brokerage accounts, brokerage taxes, investment sale, long term gains #financialliteracy
