@www.andrewkinsman.com: Beyond the Screen There is something strangely comforting about not quite knowing what is happening on the other side. Here, we sit at our little table, surrounded by the solitude of our own space, while beyond the frosted glass comes the softened murmur of another world, voices, footsteps, glasses, the gentle movement of people going about their lives. We catch fragments: a figure passing, a suggestion of movement, a sound without a visible source. Reality gives us only the information that reaches our senses, but from those fragments the mind begins to construct its own version of what might be happening. The same sound, the same shadow, the same fleeting figure can become something entirely different in the imagination of another person. Perception is where reality becomes possibility. What we see is real, but what we believe we see is shaped by memory, experience, expectation and imagination. And so, on opposite sides of the glass, illusion and reality exist together each creating the other.
