But that focus on his own suffering is exactly what people are questioning. After Macklemore used his platform to centre the tens of thousands of Palestinian children unalived in Gaza — while explicitly acknowledging his own privilege and delivering a peaceful message about humanity and equality — Sheeran’s response felt very different. Yes, he acknowledged the devastation in Gaza. But much of this particular speech was about what he had lost, how he had been affected and how difficult the week had been for him.
