This is such a dumb take, when people say this it usually comes from a past where they were taken advantage of for being naive or KIND to the wrong person. When you hear people say they prefer authenticity over kindness it means exactly what it means (some people are excessively mean, yeah, i don’t approve of complete aggression without reason), but still, villainizing someone, insinuating they couldn’t even fathom being a good person literally ends up proving their point?? If you want people to be kinder don’t alienate them even more

unfortunately blk kitty is correct, and also wrong..their are no kind people..their are no bad people either, just people acting in their own best interest,or with benevolence whenever the mood strikes them...thats the scary part...people are just both..and depending on who u are, what u look like and the circumstances. are what determine which version u get. its unfair...but life is just that...ur both

prefer not being an asshole, I prefer knowing that my actions are useful to somebody, that it helped somebody feel better. Being mean makes me carry a heavy burden, knowing that I made their life even a little worse.

Being nice and being kind are two different things as well imo. Being nice is a facade (usually with strings attached), but kindness comes from the heart (this is my personal interpretation of these things).

“Fake kindness” is not the right wording here, as most of the comments here saying it. It’s being nice. Not kind. When you’re kind, it sometimes hurts someone, But for the right reasons. Being nice is being always positive about something even if it’s worng.

I once was nice, even through all the bullying and stuff, now I’m a pretty bitter person. All thanks to someone who I cared for telling me I was too kind, and then left. I want someone who’s kind, even the fake type of kindness, but no ‘kind’ soul wants to be with a bitter one.

Who genuinely benefits from being kind than feeling good about yourself or wanting to get someone to owe you back? for some people it's just a tool to win over someone's feelings. And those "mean" people are actually just authentic people, unfiltered and misunderstood by their "rawness" i don't mean those who are actually mean and weaponize honesty to actually hurt someone? I think that's why some people have that same mindset as the girl in the first slide, not because they can't imagine it bruhh, sometimes it comes from trauma like being betrayed by someone you thought was a good person

Mean people are just as capable of being fake as "nice people", and not just in the deceptive way. Some mean people are mean not because they wholeheartedly believe what they say, but because its a coping mechanism for how they've been hurt/are hurting themselves. Same as nice people whose kindness is driven by wanting to keep the peace as a response to the hurt that they've been through. Nevertheless, no matter the authenticity, the impact of them both are just as real. Sometimes, the impact is minute. Sometimes, the impact of the act of meanness or niceness can tip the very scales in a person's day, week, maybe even life. Will your acts be what tips the scale for them for the better, or for the worse?
