I disagree with one thing, I don’t think it’s too much for kids to learn. If black kids have to learn about it. We all should. I don’t think it’s too much for kids, if it can help prevent it from happening.

I went to a Holocaust museum field trip in elementary school—absolutely horrifying. But somehow they thought that was appropriate to learn about but lynching (which is US history) isn’t 🤔🤔🤔

They also ate us at these lynchings…they had cookbooks for us. My grandfather moved my entire family north to escape lynch culture after his friend was lynched and eaten…this was the 1940s….

I think we’ve really got to reevaluate what’s hard for children to learn about. Some of these post cards made it into my elementary school text books. Was that a little young? Probably. Teens who are about to be allowed to vote and go to war and everything else are old enough to learn about this.

I'm mixed but was raised by my Black family and I thought I knew our history but I paid out of pocket in college to take African American History 1 & 3 and AA literature and omg it was so much worse than I imagined.
