The appendix actually does have a role. it contains a copy of all your gut bacteria so if they get wiped out by food poisoning, heavy vommiting, or other expulsitory methods, the body can take that sample from the appendix and rebuild your gut. Idk about the rete ovarii tho

I think people are missing the point that anatomy atlas’s are not meant to exclude things that are present in the population if we don’t understand their purpose, and that this being excluded was likely scientific sexism. there are so many muscles and structures that either aren’t important or their role is not understood yet, but are still included in anatomy atlas’s because it is prevalent in over 50% of the population(criteria for non reproductive structures). if this structure was found to be present in over 50% of women, it should have been included regardless of if we understood it’s purpose or not

I get it… misogyny. The weird thing I think about is that we don’t find ways to use these “useless” organs that are discarded bc they serve no purpose when in fact they all served a purpose back in early times and maybe we wouldn’t be nearly as sick as a species.

I think removing it is dumb regardless but I feel like they might've been thinking that ur Appendix can burst and the rete ovarii doesn't kill you so that's why they only removed one, but if it can kill u lmk
