It’s obvious why so many people want to visit this beautiful country, but even with so many tourists you can still manage to find hidden gems. 📍This is Aare Gorge It sees only a small fraction of tourists each year, but it was one of our favorite places that we visited in Switzerland! This gorge was formed over 10,000 years ago after the last Ice Age. Today, milky blue glacial water still flows through the narrow limestone gorge covered in moss. The vibrant colors and unique formations make this one of the most beautiful gorges in the world. Here is everything you need to know about visiting Aare Gorge: 📍Location: Meiringen, Switzerland (near Interlaken) 🚗 Directions: There is an East and West Entrance, the West Entrance is the most popular. Both entrances can be reached by the Meiringen–Innertkirchen Railway (Zentralbahn). 💰Fee: 12 CHF 🥾Distance: The gorge walk is about 1 mile long and follows along an elevated boardwalk and through tunnels. A train will take you back to the other entrance, or you can walk back through the gorge. 💡Tip: Arrive as soon as it opens for the best lighting. This video was taken near the West entrance around 8:45 am. The water also gets muddy after heavy rains, so try to visit on a clear day. 📚Interesting History: The gorge opened to tourists in 1888. You can also see the entrance to two underground WWII bunkers in the gorge.
