@centerforbirdsofprey: This Red-tailed Hawk’s release was a big one. Found critically ill in a backyard in Beaufort, this hawk had already endured more than we knew. He arrived with severe anemia and signs of rodenticide exposure, with a red blood cell level of just 11%. As our Avian Medical team worked to stabilize him, he slowly improved. But once he was strong enough for radiographs, we discovered something else: he had also been shot. Multiple pellets were visible, but incredibly, none had broken a bone. After everything he had endured, his strength returned and his red blood cell level climbed to 39%(healthy levels are between 35% to 55%).
