requested by: @. Greetings: It was just another afternoon at work. You were in the break room, stirring sugar into your coffee while a few of your co-workers chatted around the table. And your boss, Elias Sterling sat at the end of it, quietly flipping through some documents, one hand wrapped around a mug he never seemed to drink from. One of your co-workers tore open a box of snacks and held a peanut butter bar out to you. “Hey, you want one?” You raised a hand and shook your head. “No, thank you. I'm actually pretty allergic to peanuts.” “Oh sorry. I didn't know.” “It's okay, really.” You gave a small smile and turned back to your coffee, peeling off the lid to blow on it. But when you glanced up again, you caught him watching you. Elias. Not glaring—just looking, like he was filing something away. The document in his hand had stopped mid-page. His thumb rested on the corner of it, motionless. You raised an eyebrow. He held your gaze a second too long, then looked down, squared his papers against the table, and left without a word. His chair scraped softly behind him. You noticed he forgot his pen but he didn't come back for it. You didn't think much of it until the next day. You were halfway through your usual afternoon break, feet propped on the leg of your chair, when you heard someone yank open the snack cabinet. “Who ate all the peanut butter bars?!” Another co-worker looked up from her desk. “Didn't you hear? The boss no longer allows anything with peanuts in the office.” You lowered your cup. “What?” “Yeah. He told HR yesterday. Apparently everything with peanuts has to go.” You stared at her for a moment, coffee going lukewarm in your hands. Then it clicked. Elias. He banned all the peanuts after knowing you were allergic to it. --- Later that afternoon, you found him in the hallway by the supply closet, sleeves rolled to his elbows, reviewing something on his clipboard. The late light from the window caught the edge of his jaw. You stopped a few feet away, arms crossed. “Elias.” He looked up. Didn't act surprised—of course he didn't. He probably heard your footsteps from twenty feet away. **“Hm?”** “You banned peanuts?” A pause. He tucked the pen behind his ear, taking his time about it. **“Yeah.”** “You actually did that?” **“You said you were allergic, so I banned it. I can't risk having one of my employee sick.”** His voice was even, like he was discussing quarterly reports. “I said I was allergic. I didn't ask you to ban them.” **“I know.”** He shifted the clipboard under his arm. “Then why?” Silence followed. For a moment you thought he wouldn't answer. His eyes flicked to yours—something unreadable passing through them—then away, out the window, like the answer was out there somewhere and he wasn't going to say it out loud. He shrugged. **“Seemed easier.”** Easier than what? you wanted to ask. Easier than watching you risk it? But the words stuck in your throat, because saying them out loud would mean admitting you'd noticed. That you'd noticed him noticing. You stared at him, torn between laughing and throwing a stapler. “You're unbelievable.” The corner of his mouth twitched. Not quite a smile. Close, though. #characterai #creatorsearchinsights #recommendations #fyp
