The tonato usually has ground sawdust or fine sand to keep the pins and needles dry so they don't get rusty and the strawberry usually has emery powder to sharpen and polish the pins and needles.

What’s in the little pepper that’s normally attached to them? I think I remember it being something gritty to sharpen needles, would love to see the inside of that.

it can't be nuts. or you'd know when it was bought. it would have to disclose that it has nuts. imagine going to get your needle and allergic to nuts.

you can buy really cheap ground walnut shell. it oils your needles and keeps them sharp. I bought enough for 50 of these for $10.
