@helenaodinson: September 19, 2026 | Sicily, Italy 🇮🇹 Heavy downpours and thunderstorms caused widespread flooding across various parts of Sicily. In Agrigento, streets and cars were submerged, with mud-laden torrents rushing through the city and suburban areas. At Piazza Marconi, a section of the road collapsed, causing a car to fall into the sinkhole. In the Valley of the Temples area, one person was injured following a vehicle collision on a flooded road. In Palermo, water levels on Via Imera reached nearly 1 meter, prompting rescuers to evacuate a couple and their child from a car. Underpasses on Via Leonardo da Vinci and Viale Lazio were flooded, along with several other streets throughout the city. In Messina, the Cumia area recorded up to 55 mm of rainfall in one hour. A heavy downpour flooded the tunnels of the Franco Scoglio Stadium. In the Zafferia district, a private weather station recorded a brief rainfall intensity of up to 442 mm/h. A heavy downpour also hit Gela, while strong winds knocked down trees between Seccagrande and Ribera.
