Gear down, but no need to always get to 1. Unless in a big pack and start downshift way back.

Brakes are cheaper than transmissions and much easier to work on. The only time you should downshift is if you are in the mountains and are conserving brake temperature, or you need some Xtra wooah , to grab some torque to pass, or to be an a$$ hole and want to blow someone's ears out. lol
