We cut and paint nails in my company. We only don’t cut toe nails. The chiropodist does the toes.

1+ years of experience, and I didn't know this. In fact, I was hoping to buy a nail cutter for my Live-in care service user's nails 😳

I did work exp at a care home, we did nails on the activities team. At first I was cutting nails but was always careful not to go to short because of Diabetics. forever only filed them down after learning that. Never cut. Was that okay of the home to ask of activities workers because this is the first I’m hearing this?

care staff can generally cut a service user's nails as part of personal care, provided this is within the person's care plan, the person consents, and staff are competent to do it safely. CQC/Government guidance specifically recognises care of the nails as personal care.

You can only cut nails if you are allowed by the client as a consent. But for toe nails it’s done by chiropodist.

Is it only about domiciliary care workers or care home workers too? in our care home we are told to provide finger nail care when needed.
