@detroitzoo: You’ve heard us say it before: “Enrichment is for everyone!” 🦈 And that includes the sharks and stingrays at the Detroit Zoo, too! Our zookeepers rotate through a variety of enrichment items, some of which might look surprisingly familiar. (Hula hoops and puzzle balls, anyone?) Fun fact: stingrays are highly intelligent, with learning abilities comparable to those of a 4-year-old! 🧠 On this day, the stingrays had a blast swimming through hula hoops, which mimic the different spaces they might navigate in the wild. They also went gaga for underwater bubbles, adding a fun sensory experience to their day. And the puzzle feeder balls? A hit with both the sharks and stingrays! These enrichment tools encourage natural foraging behaviors while giving the animals a chance to problem-solve.
