@nancy.druzy: Petrified bogwood, also called Gary Green Jasper or Larsonite, is a form of petrified wood found near McDermitt, Oregon, on the Oregon-Nevada border. A volcanic event covered the swampy area in ash and debris 11-15 million years ago, which deprived the plants of oxygen, stopping the process of decay. Minerals from the ash replaced the wood, and because of the unique mixture of organic matter, algae, etc., the replacing silica turned into blue and teal colors. "Regular" petrified wood formed in a standard terrestrial floodplain or volcanic ash bed, while bogwood comes from vegetation that fell into stagnant, acidic, oxygen-depleted bogs. I will have these on the table soon. #crystals #minerals
