Posted @withregram • @petrafishermovement 🦶GET MORE FOOT MOBILITY 🦶 Our feet have an incredible amount of mobility potential - with 33 joints in each foot! . This is partly to allow supination and pronation movements in the foot. . It also allows us to walk on natural textured surfaces. The ability of our feet to mold to texture allows them to absorb some of the shocks of walking & take some of the loads off the ankles, knees & hips. . Each joint in our foot needs to be moved regularly in order to stay healthy (just like all our joints) and the muscles and tissues around the joints are healthier when they move more too. . 👉🏼 Our feet are adapted to help our bodies deal with texture & walking, but the flip side is that we need textured walking to keep our feet ideally healthy. . 😢Since most of us get very little texture walking, our feet end up stiff, the joints end up sticky, and overall we lose out on both function & wellness. . Simply walking barefoot on light textures will help you start mobilizing your feet! . 💡But when you’re at home, try stepping on balls! . Not rolling, we’re stepping, as though we’re walking. Here’s what to do! . ➡️Choose a ball or object that feels good to your foot when you step on it. ➡️ Step gently and explore all different areas of your forefoot and midfoot. (Skip your heel, it’s basically one big bone so you can’t mobilize it.) ➡️ Your back foot is basically a gas pedal. Step back with it and you’ll have less pressure on the ball. Step forward and you get more. ➡️ Hold a wall or counter for balance as needed! Your wobbles will decrease with time and doing this type of work but give yourself the help you need along the way! ➡️ Choose multiple spots across your feet and hang out for 10-30 seconds on each spot. . Any ball that feels good will work - start with larger & softer ones and advance to smaller & harder if it feels good! . 💗 this? You can get more of my fave footwork by clicking @petrafishermovement and heading to the link to pick up my (free) Free Your Feet program. . 🙋‍♀️Questions? Hit me up!
