Everyone thinks Japan is expensive. In 2026, it's one of the cheapest developed countries in the world. Here is exactly how I did 10 days in Japan for €1,200 all-in. First, the flight. I never fly direct to Japan. Paris-Tokyo direct is €1,200 minimum. With a layover in Istanbul, Doha or Seoul, it drops to €500. Three extra hours in the air, €700 back in your pocket. That is 5 nights of accommodation or 2 weeks of food in Japan. Second, accommodation. Japanese hotels are now €150 per night for 15m² boxes where the bed takes the whole room. I book apartments on Rakuten Travel or Japanican for €70 to €80 per night: 40m², kitchen, laundry machine. Twice the space, half the price. Never Airbnb in Japan, the regulation killed it. Third, transport. The JR Pass is dead. Price went up 70% in 2023, €330 for 7 days, and you need to cross Japan multiple times to break even. Just use a Suica card and pay per trip. Saves me €100-150 every single trip. Fourth, food. I eat for €15 a day in Japan and I eat well. Konbini breakfast for €3, ramen lunch for €6, izakaya dinner for €12. Or supermarket half-price bentos after 7pm for €2.50. Japan is cheaper than Paris on food, not even close. And the one thing nobody prepares: internet. Without it you cannot book, translate, navigate or pay. And most generic eSIMs block your apps and your bank the moment you land. I always get PlanJapan before flying: €15 for 2 weeks, all apps work, zero issues. Link in my bio. Full 10-day breakdown: flight €500, apartment €400, food €150, transport €50, activities €100. Total €1,200. Cheaper than 10 days in Paris, and honestly, I eat and sleep better than in most European cities. #JapanBudget #JapanTravelTips #Japan2026 #TokyoOnABudget #eSIMJapan
