the best part about the first movie is that it understood what we wanted out of giant robot vs big monster movies. they FELT LIKE giant robots. second movie tried way too hard to be different

i can never find it, but i swear there was an old af college humor or machinima video of an old dude being intervieweed and he is like "yeah i was in that ship while that giant ass robot used my fuckin boat as a bat. look at me, does it look like it was fun?" the dude was in a full body cast.

There’s also a scene where the robot and kaiju fight in space and the robot cuts off the kaiju’s head with a giant sword. Amazing movie

Genuinely I think Pacific Rim is an absolute masterclass in getting you to suspend disbelief and also knowing that its concept is inherently silly and having fun with it. I think a lot of recent movies with silly concepts feel almost embarrassed and resort to a lot of self deprecating humor and it just falls flat
