@michaeljfit: Why does your spouse still not trust you after you cheated? Because your efforts are focused on proving you won’t cheat again instead of transforming the patterns that allowed you to cheat. You still cannot fully explain why you betrayed them. You wait for your spouse to begin every difficult conversation, become defensive when their pain feels overwhelming, and rely on passwords, location sharing, gifts, and staying home as proof that you have changed. Those actions can create temporary safety, but they do not repair the internal issues that made betrayal possible. Your spouse needs to see you discover why you cheated, address your core issues, initiate difficult conversations, regulate your emotions, and remain consistent when recovery becomes uncomfortable. Trust returns when change becomes who you are—not something you temporarily perform.
