@misfitdiamonds: A frequently asked question we get around here is “are salt and pepper diamonds less durable as a result of their inclusions?”. Some diamonds may have been harmed in the creation of this footage 🫣 To test the durability of highly included diamonds, we created an educational series of short videos where we smash imperfect misfits against (and with) a variety of thing to see how they hold up. In this video, we return to our 3ct Salt and Pepper rose cut Diamond from Part 2. It had already survived a baseball bat swing (ricocheting off of multiple walls), me jumping on it in my best attempt to recreate Bruce Lee’s foot stomp from Enter the Dragon, and a hammer strike. After surviving all of that, surely it means that the diamond was indestructible, so why not one more hammer swing for posterity? Alas, it turns out there are limits to a diamond’s durability, and our Lozenge is now many diamonds small instead of one 3ct stone. We hope, however, that this videos have helped illustrate just how tough these imperfect diamond misfits can be. So many variables can impact a stone’s structural integrity. Some diamonds are better suited for pendants, earrings and types of jewellery that aren’t exposed to daily wear and tear, and all Diamonds are precious gems that should be handled with care if they are to last a life time. Diamonds are also surprisingly more durable than you think and have to withstand tremendous amounts of force and pressure during the cutting and faceting process.
