I think that saying you like the sub better than the dub because they put more emotion into their words is appropriating a culture. Because in Japanese their way of speaking is quite different. A lot more intensity in certain vowels and consonants. Also there’s the shock factor of hearing something you don’t understand. To make the claim is to basically say that English dub VAs sit there straight faced and monotone read the lines. Nobody would be getting paid and there wouldn’t be English dubs. Because nobody would watch it in dub if it wasn’t good. Dub isn’t for people who are too lazy to look up and down for the entire episode, it’s for people that actually want to understand what is going on without cramping their neck or straining their eyes. It is so sad that there are dub haters out here. Yall are appropriating a culture

I have a perspective to help some people understand. Japanese does it naturally. They are the original. The way their voices are perpetrate the entire emotion. It’s natural to them. Voice acting a Japanese or oriental animation to voice actors is difficult. I have an example. Gyutaro from demon slayer. That voice actor in Japan did such a good job that the English dub va had to follow up that. Made it almost impossible. They may be good for English, but it’s not the same. The effort the English vas put in is admirable but it just can’t measure up to the standards. Enjoy what you like. Have your preference but just know. Mahito in English is corny. 😂
