@erinrackham: This is not just about the laundry—my husband suddenly became the primary parent & sole provider when I got sick & I’ve only recently been able to help with small things here and there for our family. Most ppl with Long COVID don’t have support systems like this to rely on and if they can’t pace & rest like they need to, it’s incredibly hard to heal and improve. ❤️🩹 #longCOVID #mentalload #domesticlabor
You are so lucky. My partner of 15 years abandoned me when I got sick and left me with nothing and no support.

I have long covid and a husband who refuses to (“can’t”) do most domestic labor. At least he earns a paycheck I guess.

I am just suffocated by squalor and doing what I can. It's really hard.

I sent this to my husband to show him that 1. he’s not the only husband who does EVERYTHING for a sick wife and 2. I appreciate and love all he does for me. And it ended up pissing him off. He calls this “depressing” and he’s mad at me for it. And I don’t understand what happened. But I’m wondering if anyone else had this happen?

My husband was a Medical Doctor mind you, and he did not believe in ME CFS. Oh hold on, I filed for a divorce and moved to Oregon 😁

I’ve been lucky, I’ve had just enough energy to keep working at my home based desk job, which is good because I’m the sole breadwinner. My wife has had to do a lot tho. I do try to make sure she gets a break from time to time tho.

My husband has been the primary caregiver and provider off and on for ten years. He’s an amazing person, and also it’s such a big financial struggle when I can’t work AND we are spending so much on healthcare!

As I date, I find myself both resisting and having to accept the fact that although most of my pursuit is for the sake of romantic connection and sexual liberation— I am also seeking accessibility and long-term security. Without a nesting partner and eventual marriage (neither of which Im even sure I want), financial stability and a manageable workload is likely out of my reach as a disabled person. Love you and miss you my friend! So happy you have the support you have ❤️

My husband is the same way. I can still do laundry and dishes, but I haven’t cooked a meal or packed a lunch in five years.

This is so wonderful for you. That has been the hardest part of sickness is the lack of support. But also the pushback against me saying I’m not doing enough to do get better and comments like that

what a good partner. my wife did all the childcare errands for years and encouraged me to do the ones that had socialization together when I could. not things like drop off or other things that had a cost without a social payoff

Smart, I should do that. I always think "I'm just going to fold the laundry first" because I feel that before that is done I have not deserved me-time 😜 Crazy, since I have a very supportive partner... I only need to change... 🙃

I was also blessed to have a husband who took over all the responsibilities of the home when I got long COVID. It took me out in March of 2023, and I had been the main earner at the time. 😭I’m doing a lot better but I cannot do as much as I used to and cleaning has become very low priority for me. 🤣

Yes this is my partner too. He is the exact same when I talk about doing a "chore" - he would rather I do something that brings me joy and recharges. I try and get him to take breaks when I can, like my mum staying for a bit or thinfs like that
