I’m at Walden and what I was told by financial aid 2 courses × 3 credits each = 6 credits → Full-time * 1 course × 3 credits = 3 credits → Half-time * 5 credits → Three-quarter-time * 6+ credits → Full-time

Plus loan is gone for NEW borrowers but it still applies and can leave you short. Your employer having tuition reimbursement is key now. My university allows you to not pay until the end of term when the company pays out .

I got 6 credits and received 5k in refunds plus a tuition waver they only gave me 10k per semester I’m not sure how I feel it but my school is relatively cheap so I am grateful for that

Yessss this just happened to me! I was SO frustrated I “borrowed” just enough to cover my full tuition expense for the semester (online program) and I didn’t get the full amount, had to pay out of pocket for a solid chunk.

I do not recommend part time for graduate school. The amount of courses as an entirety is too low to stretch part time unless you’re paying out of pocket. Thank you for sharing this update!

9 credits is the sweet spot. You get all the federal with about 2k left over for most programs. Any less credits, you get less federal. Any more credits, federal cant cover and you need to find other funds. Also no grad plus loans for the majority of programs. However, anyone who was actively in grad courses starting this past summer or prior is grandfathered into the grad plus loans and can use it for following semesters. If your first semester is this semester or later, you have no access.
